Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered into a search tool is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the query and supplies its results. We do not retain or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain an email or other direct message when needed to respond. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the servers automatically receive basic technical and usage details:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- The device's assigned IP address
- Browser type and version
- Device category and operating system
- Time spent on individual pages
- The referring site, when one is reported
Cookies and Analytics
This site uses cookies, which are small files saved on a visitor's device. Cookies and analytics services help combine traffic information, such as which pages receive the most visits and where visits end. A browser can be set to reject cookies, though some site functions may then work differently.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a search query to the selected partner service
- Finding and correcting performance or technical problems
- Operating the site and keeping pages responsive
- Measuring which pages are useful and where improvements are needed
- Displaying advertising that may reflect a visitor's interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Doddridge County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general directions to official custodians, including the Doddridge County Sheriff, the Circuit and Magistrate clerks, the West Virginia State Police Criminal Records Section, and the West Virginia State Police Sex Offender Registry. This site is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor information is not compiled into consumer reports or third-party criminal records.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes that appear on this site. A partner's privacy policy, rather than this policy, controls data entered into its tool. Each company sets its own retention and sharing rules. Visitors should read those terms before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Doddridge County offices, West Virginia court and agency pages, legal-aid resources, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves this site, the destination's privacy policy applies. Review it before providing personal information.
Some advertising companies may track activity across websites to select ads. That processing takes place on their systems and under their policies.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be disclosed to the following limited recipients:
- Analytics providers that measure traffic and site performance
- Search partners that process queries sent through their tools
- Advertising networks that place material on the pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, standard safeguards are used for information collected by the site. No internet-connected service can guarantee complete security, however, and we cannot promise that a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such information, we will delete it.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with a visitor's location and applicable law. In West Virginia, the Freedom of Information Act, W. Va. Code §29B-1-1 et seq., governs access to records held by public bodies, while W. Va. Code §15-2-24 limits dissemination of state criminal-history information and requires the record subject's written, acknowledged authorization for private requests. Those laws govern official records and do not turn this private site into a government custodian. For information that we do hold, you can:
- Request deletion of personal data, where applicable
- Ask what personal information we hold about you
- Request correction of inaccurate information
- Opt out of certain processing where the law provides that choice
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised from time to time. A changed version will be posted here with its new effective date, so visitors can review the current practices on this page.
